My shih tzu is not a purebred but I know both his parents were more "shih tzu" than anything else they were mixed with. I've looked online for healthy weights for that breed and most say around 8lbs. Mine is about 20lbs. Is this overweight for a mixed shih tzu but mostly shih tzu? I would like opinions along with reasoning because I think it's definitely overweight. Purebred Shih Tzu should be between lbs ideally.

Purebred dog enthusiasts say that it is easier to predict the attributes of purebred puppies, which means through the use of selective breeding and a range of health tests, puppies are healthy and have a reduced risk of inheriting diseases from their parents.
As befitting the Shi Tzu's noble Chinese ancestry he should stand proudly, carrying a weight of between 9 and 16 pounds. Anything either lighter or heavier indicates an unhealthy dog.
